Odisha HC directs SEC to hold ZP Chairman polls in Malkangiri

The Orissa High Court today directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to conduct polls for the post of Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chairman in Malkangiri district.

The High Court also directed the commission to hold elections in 18 gram panchayats of Chitrakonda I & II zones in the district.

Notably, the SEC had stayed polls in these two zones out of the total 13 ZP zones in Malkangiri after getting a joint report from the district Collector and SP regarding safety issues of the candidates, voters and election officials due to Maoists.

Worth mentioning, BJP has captured 10 ZP zones while BJD managed to win one zone in the district in the recently concluded panchayat polls.
