Odisha HC dismisses Mahima Mishra’s habeas corpus petition

Cuttack: In yet another jolt to industrialist and Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) managing director Mahimananda Mishra aka Mahima Mishra, the Orissa High Court today rejected the habeas corpus petition filed by him.

The petition was filed by Mishra alleging illegal detention by police in connection with Press Chhak bomb hurling case and Tarinigada firing case.

Notably, bomb was hurled at lawyer Abhay Bhatt near Press Chhak in Cuttack on September 21, 2013 in an attempt to kill him. Mishra at that time wanted to purchase a piece of land worth Rs 72 lakh but it was Bhatt who succeeded in buying it.

Ganesh Sahu, a criminal, had revealed to police during interrogation that the bomb was hurled under Mishra’s direction, police had said.

Similarly, miscreants had opened fire on two youths at Tarinigada in Paradip in May last year after which both the victims sustained injuries. Police had registered a case against Mishra alleging that the act was orchestrated at his behest.

Worth mentioning, Mishra was arrested in connection with the murder of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Private Limited (SSPL) General Manager Mahendra Swain in Paradip.

The High Court had on May 16 granted him conditional bail in the murder case. However, he is yet to get relief in the remaining two cases.
