Odisha officer arrested for sending lewd messages

Bhubaneswar, Oct 12:

Commissionerate Police today arrested Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer Premananda Khuntia on charges of sending objectionable messages on WhatsApp, a messaging platform to a fellow woman officer of the same cadre.

Khuntia was arrested on the basis of the statement of the victim woman officer recorded before the police under section 161 Cr Pc and has been forwarded to court, police sources said. He was arrested while he was roaming near his residence by the Nayapally police, sources added.

A fellow woman officer had brought allegations against state Project Director of Rastriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) Premananda Khuntia of sending objectionable messages on WhatsApp.

An FIR was lodged with Nayapalli police station here on Saturday by the woman officer alleging that the senior OAS officer had forwarded objectionable video to her. Following the complaint, the Bhubaneswar DCP had launched an investigation into the incident.

The complainant woman officer is a Child Protection Officer with the Women and Child Development Department.

She had earlier submitted a written complaint with the senior officials of the School and Mass Education Department in this regard but to no avail.
