Odisha: School students felicitated for excellence in drawing

Bhubaneswar, July 6:

Nine children from various schools of the city were felicitated today for their excellence in an inter-school drawing competition on the subject ‘Paint Your planet’, sponsored by the DRM Infrastructure, an Odisha-based real estate company, at Hotel Suryansh here.

The competition, conceptualized and conducted by city based brand consultancy firm-AUXIN, was held earlier on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5 this year.Paint planet competition

The winners were selected from among 200 children from standard II to XII from different schools of the city such as DAV Public School-Unit VIII, BGEMS, Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) No-1, MBS Public School, St. Xavier High School, Loyola, DAV Chandrasekharpur, Sai International, Prabhuji English Medium School, St Joseph’s High School, Venkateshwar English Medium School, Shri Aurobindo, KV No-6, DPS Kalinga, Unit-IX Girls High School. Vivekananda Siksha Kendra, DAV Pokhriput those participated in this competition.

The chief guest, former Information Commissioner of Odisha Jagadanand gave away the prizes to the winners in the three different groups. He advised the students and their parents to plant a tree each in creating a better, greener world.

Speaking on this occasion, Dhruti Ranjan Mohanty, Managing Director of DRM Infrastructure said, “The fact that a general sense of apathy and lack of awareness on environment conservation and protection is a matter of concern. If we can install a sense of responsibility and awareness in a child right from the beginning, it could go a long way in helping the cause as children are the biggest inspiration for their parents.”

Among others, Father Joshy Xavier, Director of Human Life Center (HLC) and environmentalist Dr. Piyush Ranjan Rout also spoke on the need to inculcate a sense of respect and responsibility for enviroment among students and the people at large.

Best of the students’ drawings on plantation of trees, use of renewable sources of energy, use of biodegradable stuffs and conservation of energy and water were exhibited on the occasion.
