Odisha’s steel city Rourkela gets corporation status

Bhubaneswar, Nov 14:

The Odisha government today accorded corporation status to Rourkela city.

A notification to this effect was issued by the Housing and Urban Development department today.

According to the notification, three more panchayats – Jhadataranga, Jagada and Nabakrushna Nagar – have been brought under the jurisdiction of Rourkela Municipal Corporation.

With the addition of these three panchayats, a decision will be taken for creation of more wards soon, official sources said.

The newly-formed corporation has a total of 33 wards at present.
