PCR vans number to be increased for patrolling in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: In view of population growth and expansion of the city, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate is planning to increase the number of PCR vans for patrolling in the state capital.

Reviewing the condition of the PCR vans that are in poor condition and shortage of staff in police control room, the Commissionerate police is all set to strengthen the PCR and control room for providing safety to the denizens.

Sources said that the Commissionerate police is planning to increase the PCR number to 60 with more appointment of the staff and modernise the police control room.

A proposal to increase the PCR vans number to 60 has been sent to the state government for approval.

As per plan made by the Commissionerate police authorities, apart from increase in PCR vans and appointment of staff in the police control room, a number of home guards will be appointed. The PCR van and police control room will be given the recognition like a special district police.

An official in rank of DCP will be in charge of the police control room. There will be three officers in rank of inspector, 15 ASIs and one SI working under the DCP, who will monitor directly all the incidents, informed Police Commissioner YB Khurania.

Currently, total 33 PCR vans are engaged in patrolling across Bhubaneswar, out of which most of the PCR vans are in the bad condition to be operational. The poor condition of the PCR vans and shortage of staff are the major reasons for which most of the time the PCR vans fail to reach the spot on time.
