Prabhu stresses on customer service, passenger amenities

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu today emphasised on improved customer service, passenger amenities and infrastructure development on the sidelines of national level Railway week award function celebrated in Odisha capital.

“Development of this region has been an article of faith for Railways. Railway connectivity is obviously is an important factor in the development process. Indian Railways is earnestly committed to create adequate Railway infrastructure (new lines, gauge conversions, station developments, new trains, passenger facility and amenities etc.) in East Coast Region,” Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said.

Infrastructural development, customer satisfaction and services, improved passenger amenities are facing new challenges in the recent trend of communication development. Top most priority should be given to safety, security and punctuality and on-board services, he said.

Prabhu also advised all Zonal Railways and Railway Board Members to gear up to the challenges which are being faced by Indian Railways now a day. Infrastructural development through partnership in progress will lead to benefit of the people as well as the country. In view of special emphasis and focus on development, he urged state governments to co-operate with Railways in infrastructural developments in their respective States.

The 61st National Level Railway Week Award Function-2016 was inaugurated by Prabhu here today. The Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha was present on the occasion as Guest of Honour. Also present on the occasion among others were Chairman, Railway Board A.K.Mital; Railway Board Members; General Managers of all the Zonal Railways and the Production units and other senior railway officials.

Altogether 143 Railway employees and officers were awarded on this occasion for their outstanding performance. As many as 25 shields were also given to different Zonal Railways, production units for their better performance and achievements; where East Coast Railway bagged Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant shield for overall performance.

To commemorate the introduction of the first train in Indian soil on this day in 1853 between Boribunder (Mumbai) to Thane, Indian Railways celebrates Railway Week from 10th to 16th April every year. The Ministry of Railways celebrated its most momentous National level Award Function marking Railway Week this year at Bhubaneswar. This year’s Railways National Programme is dedicated to the East Coast region and its people.
