Rs 6.12 lakh fake currency seized in Odisha, eight arrested

In a major breakthrough, Odisha police today busted a fake currency printing unit in Bargarh district with arrest of eight persons, including a woman, in this connection. Besides, a whopping Rs 6,12,000 counterfeit currency notes were seized from the unit.

Acting on reliable information, local police raided the fake currency printing unit. The cops were startled to find such huge amount of counterfeit currency. The fake Indian currency notes include Rs 2000 (85), Rs 500 (793) and Rs 100 (19) denominations.

“Fake currency notes worth Rs 6,12,000 with denominations of Rs 2000, Rs 500 and Rs 100 have been seized and eight persons have been arrested in this connection, including two main culprits, who were printing and circulating the fake notes,” said Bargarh SP B Jugal Kishore.

Police also seized a computer, three seals to emboss Gandhi image, a mobile phone and other devices from their possession which were used in printing fake currency notes.

The arrested mastermind of the racket has been identified as Balaram Behera of Barpali village in the district.

Worth mentioning, Rs 8,000 of fake currency notes was seized from a person yesterday, following which police started investigations to reach get to the root of the racket. The swift action of police yielded dividends with the busting of the racket today.
