Six-yr-old girl killed, 3 critical as truck hits bike in Odisha

Baripada: In a tragic incident, a six-year-old girl died and three others sustained critical injuries after the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a dumper truck in Badampahar area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, today.

The deceased has been identified as Arati Bhadra, a student of Saraswati Shishu Vidya Mandir.

According to reports, Arati and two other students were returning home from the school on a motorcycle which was being driven by one Chedaga Bhadra of Dhangadimota village. A speeding dumper hit the two-wheeler near the office of Badampahar iron ore mines.

While Arati died on the spot, others were grievously injured in the road accident. They have been admitted to Badampahar hospital for treatment.

Tension gripped the spot after the mishap as irate locals thrashed dumper driver Fagu Hansdah black and blue. Demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the families of the victims, they staged a road blockade.

On the other hand, the truck driver, who was critically injured after being attacked by locals, has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.
