3 minors die of food poisoning in Odisha; 20 hospitalised

Three minor children died and 20 others were taken ill this morning in Bhulki village under Kisinda police station limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district as a result of poisonous food they consumed at a marriage ceremony in the village on Monday.

The three deceased children have been identified as Birsa Purti (7), Sunita Purti (3) and Manika Munda (11).

According to reports, many people, including the three children who died today, started vomiting and felt giddy shortly after they partook of the marriage feast in the village.

The sick were admitted to a nearby hospital where the three minor children succumbed to their illness this morning.

“We have sent a three-member team of doctors to the village to treat the other villagers who fell ill after consuming the poisonous food,” Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO), Sambalpur, Panchanan Nayak told the media here.
