Thunderstorm alert issued for 16 Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty surface wind is likely to lash as many as 16 districts of Odisha today, the Regional Meteorological Centre predicted.

The districts likely to be affected are Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul and Koraput.

“Latest Doppler weather radar and satellite imageries indicate that thunderstorm accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 KMPH is likely to occur over the districts of Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Cuttack, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul and Koraput till 4.15 pm,” a bulletin of the Meteorological Centre said.

Residents of the districts are advised to stay indoors or take shelter at safe places during the period.
