Youth beaten by police, hospitalised in Odisha’s Balangir

A youth was hospitalised in a critical condition last night in Odisha’s Balangir district after he was allegedly beaten up by police during probe into a torture case lodged by a tribal girl.

The youth, identified as Trinath Behera, has been admitted to Balangir district headquarters hospital.

Notably, a 19-year-old tribal girl of Pardhiapali village under Sadar police limits in the district had lodged a complaint with police on March 8 alleging that her neighbour Byasa Pradhan and his family members thrashed her, cut her hair and forced her to wear a garland of slippers over stealing a mobile phone.
