2 dead, 1 more critically injured after speeding truck hits on NH-353 in Odisha’s Nuapada

Khariar: Two youths were killed on the spot and one more sustained grievous injury as they were hit by a speeding and identified truck in the wee hours of today at around 3.30 am near Badamaheswar village on NH-353 under Khariar police limits in Nuapada.

The two deceased were identified as Sunil Behera, Gobinda Nag, and the injured youth as Alok Rout, all from Barapadar village of the district.

According to a police source, the three youths were on their way elsewhere when they met with the accident. Driver of the speeding truck fled from the spot along with the vehicle soon after committing the crime. Some locals rescued Alok in critical condition and sent him to hospital.

The road mishap triggered tension in nearby locality after news of it spread. Family members of the deceased and several local residents staged a protest and a road blockade near Badamaheswar by keeping the bodies on the main road and demanding adequate compensation to the victim’s next of kin. Vehicular movement was completely disrupted due to the agitation.

The agitating locals also demanded an immediate arrest of the absconding truck driver.

On being informed, Khariar police reached the spot and tried to convince the irate locals. Police have registered a case and initiated a probe into the road mishap, the cop added.
