Odisha: Fearing social stigma, COVID +ve elderly man ends life

Angul: In an unfortunate incident, an elderly man allegedly ended his life fearing social stigma after testing positive for COVID-19 in Odisha’s Angul district, today.

The deceased has been identified as Jagabandhu Bag (65) of Sapuinali village under Chhendipada police limits in the district.

As per police sources, Bag had tested positive for the virus on May 2. Though an ambulance arrived to shift him to COVID Hospital, he refused to go to the healthcare facility.

He was reportedly under stress fearing social stigma. Around 7 am this morning, his body was found hanging from a tree near the village.

On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body and initiated investigation. An unnatural death case has been registered in this connection.
