JEE Mains exam begins in Odisha; no advance exams from 2015

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) began in Odisha today.

Of the over 13 lakh students appearing in the examinations all over the country,nearly 50,000 are appearing in Odisha. The examination for admission into several government and private engineering colleges is being held at 90 centres of which 28 are at Bhubaneswar, 9 at Cuttack, 12 at Brahmapur, 10 at Sambalpur, 8 at Rourkela, 12 at Baleswar, 2 at Bhawanipatna, 4 at Jeypore and 5 at Angul.

While a maximum of 20,000 students are appearing at Bhubaneswar, the lowest number of 1200 candidates are appearing at Bhawanipatna centre, reports said.

The examinations have two sittings. The timing for first sitting is from 9.30 AM to 12.30 PM while the second sitting is 2 PM to 5 PM.

The results of the JEE (Mains) would be announced in the first week of May.

It may be mentioned here that about 20,000 students had appeared the JEE Mains examination held at Rourkela last year.

According to CBSE sources, the JEE Mains examinations would be followed by JEE Advance examinations that would begin from May 25 for admission into the IIT and NIT.

The first 1.5 lakh candidates clearing the JEE Mains examinations would be eligible for JEE Advance examinations for which the registration of the candidates would begin from May 4 and end on May 9.

While the registration fee for the candidates belonging to general and backward castes is Rs 2000, SC and ST candidates will have to pay only Rs 1000. Girl students have been completely exempted from the fee.

As per rules, a candidate would be given two chances to appear at the JEE Advance examination the results of which would be announced on June 19.

The candidates have to register their names for counseling from June 20 to 24 while the allocation of seats would be made as per the all India ranking, the sources added.

Meanwhile, the ministry of Human Resources Development has decided to abolish the JEE Advance examinations and strictly implement One-Country-One-Examination rules from 2015 in which there would be a single entrance examination for admission in all government and private engineering colleges of the states and 16 Centrally aided institutes including the IIT, NIT, and IMM, Dhanbad.
