Shops, shopping malls, schools, colleges, government and non government offices remained closed on Wednesday, while the streets bore a deserted look in the district after party members held agitation and picketed in various places.

The Congress is demanding smart city status for Boudh city, supply of clean drinking water, resignation of the block chairman, filling up of vacant posts in the district headquarters hospital, government recognition to the oldest college of the district, among others.

The Congress party has threatened to intensify the agitation if their demands are not fulfilled and development of the region is ignored by the state government.

The strikers have allowed emergency services to be carried on during the dawn-to-dusk bandh.

Security has been tightened in the district by the police to avoid any untoward incident.
