Interesting watch: A tale of love and art in pre-independence Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha-based theatre artist and film director Manas Sahoo has come up with an Odia music video, ‘Jharka Sepate Barsha’, which beautifully depicts the anguish of a woman separated from her husband.

The promo of this music video was released yesterday.

“The man, who is a writer, refuses to write anymore because under the British rule, not even rain, which is the greatest muse, is free. He gets arrested soon and his wife, who’s a painter, lives with his memories,” said Manas, who donned the director’s hat for this music video.

Manas Sahoo has earlier made award-winning films like ‘The voice of silence’, ‘The tale of Kol Lohar’, and ‘The poem of the needle’. He had also won a National award for his play No-exit.

The song was released on March 21. “We tried an unconventional theme – patriotic romanticism. We shot the scenes in an old building at Banapur that perfectly fit the theme of this music video,” he added.

The music video features Jitendra Bhanja as the writer and Tusmita Patel as his wife. “The actors were brilliant and we could complete the shoot in just five days,” he further said.

Speaking about the theme, he said the idea struck him while thinking about his creative journey. “My social system wasn’t supportive to my free-thinking. At that time, I wondered the plight of artists during the British rule and ended up with the idea of Jharka Sepate Barsha,” he said.

Subhashree Tripathy lent her voice to this heart-touching song, composed by Nishikant Dalbehera.

The music video produced by Sanjeev Kumar will release on March 28.
