Notorious criminal injured in police encounter in Odisha’s Ganjam; 3 cops hurt

Dreaded criminal Satrughna Swain alias Bapi was critically injured in an encounter with police near Barbara forest under Jagannath Prasad police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district early this morning.

Bapi sustained bullet injuries on his two legs and was admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.

On the other hand, three cops including Jagannath Prasad police station IIC Sushant Sethy were injured in the incident, sources said.

According to reports, a team of Jagannath Prasad police intercepted Bapi at around 5 am but he tried to escape following which the former fired at him.

He fell down on being hit by bullets and the policemen nabbed him.

As many as five bullets, one country made gun, a bomb, 3 mobile phones, explosives and a bike were seized from his possession.

Over 17 cases including those of dacoity, loot and bombing are pending against Bapi, police sources said.
