Odisha police nab hardcore criminal after encounter

Berhampur, May 23:

Odisha police today nabbed a history-sheeter following an encounter near Tamada Ghat under Golanthara police limits in Berhampur.

The criminal identified as Subhas Naik alias Andala was netted by police after an encounter with police here today.

Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap near Tamada Ghat. While the anti-social and one of his associates were passing through the Ghat, the police personnel intercepted him after which he opened fire at them.

In retaliation, police too fired on him injuring Naik. The dreaded criminal took a bullet on his left leg after which he fell on the ground.

Police nabbed him and admitted him to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here for treatment.

The cops seized a firearm and three bullets from his possession.

Notably, over 17 cases are pending against Andala at various police stations in the district, sources said.
