Sub-Collector office staff under Vigilance scanner for accepting bribe in Odisha’s Sambalpur

Kuchinda: A team of Odisha Vigilance sleuths today caught a female clerical staff of the Sub-Collector’s Office red-handed, while she was accepting a bribe. The accused identified as Nighat Parveen alias Roza presently works as a forest rights assistant (FRA) in the office in Kuchinda of Sambalpur district.

According to an official source, Nighat Parveen has been apprehended by the Vigilance for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 as the second installment of the overall demand of Rs 23,000 from a complainant, a representative of some beneficiaries, to process the file for issuance of Individual Forest Rights (IFR) from the group of beneficiaries under the Forest Rights Act.

Entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of accused Nighat Parveen and seized.

Earlier, the accused FRA had taken Rs 15,000 as the first installment from the complainant and she accepted the balance amount of Rs 8,000 to process the file, the official source expressed.

As the poor beneficiaries were unable to meet the demand, the complainant informed this to Vigilance. Accordingly, Vigilance officials laid a trap and nabbed Nighat Parbeen leading to the seizure.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway by separate teams at two different locations linked to the accused FRA. In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance PS case [No-07, dated 10.03.2024, U/s 7 of the PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018] has been registered.
