Tribal woman gang raped in Odisha; three arrested

In a shocking incident, four persons allegedly gang-raped a 21-year-old tribal woman at Mahuri village under Baisinga police limits in Odisha’s  Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday, police said today.

Four persons forcibly lifted a woman while she had gone to a deserted place to relieve herself during a ‘jatra’ show at Mahuri on Wednesday night and allegedly gang-raped her, police said.

Police said it has arrested and identified all the four accused.

“Three of the four accused persons have been arrested so far. All the accused have been identified,” said officer-in-charge of Baisinga police station Ramakanta Muduli.

A case has been registered against the accused, who are in the age group of 25 years, under section 376 (D), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and section 3 of the SC, ST Atrocity Act,” Muduli said.

The woman’s husband and other family members were seated in the jatra audience and became worried when she did not return after a while.

The victim hails from nearby Gajadi village under Badasahi police station area, police said.
