Odisha hosp fire row: Police interrogate SUM dean, VC

Intensifying its investigation into the SUM Hospital fire mishap, the Twin City Commissionerate police today interrogated SUM medical college dean and Vice Chancellor of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University, informed Police Commissioner YB Khurania.

According to reports, SUM medical college dean Gangadhar Sahoo and Vice Chancellor of SOA University appeared at the Khandagiri police station and were interrogated by a team of Commissionerate Police. The questioning of the two staff comes on the second and last day of remand period of SUM hospital owner Manoj Nayak.

On the other hand, Saswati Dash, wife of Manoj Nayak, who was called for interrogation, is yet to appear before police. The lookout circular issued against her is still in effect, Khurania said.

He further informed that police have received the post-mortem report of bodies of 19 persons who had died in the fire mishap. The report contains the circumstances under which they died, he added.

On the other hand, Director of Capital Hospital Dr Biswa Bhusan Patnaik said that the cause of deaths mentioned in the post-mortem report can’t be revealed as police will conduct investigation on the basis of it.
