Harivansh Narayan Singh re-elected as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman

Bhubaneswar: NDA nominee and Janata Dal (United) MP Harivansh Narayan Singh was re-elected as the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha in an election by voice vote today.

Rajya Sabha Chairman M.Venkaiah Naidu declared the parliamentarian as the winning candidate for the post of deputy chairman of Upper House of Indian Parliament.

The JD(U) MP of Bihar was chosen for the prestigious post through voice vote after opposition parties proposed candidature of RJD MP Manoj Sinha.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Harivansh Narayan Singh on being re-elected as the deputy chairperson of Rajya Sabha.

Earlier in the day, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) had declared to extend its support to the NDA candidate for the post of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha after Bihar Chief Minister called up his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik for the second time seeking support for JD(U) candidate.

In the year 2018, Odisha’s ruling BJD had backed the NDA candidate Harivansh Narayan Singh in the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman’s poll.

Harivansh Narayan Singh was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the JD(U) from Bihar in 2014 for a period of six-year term. On August 8, 2018, he was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Upper House of Indian Parliament.
