3.34 crore voters to exercise their franchise in 2024 polls in Odisha; Know alternative ID proofs for casting vote

Bhubaneswar: As many as 3.34 crore voters will exercise their franchise in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Odisha.

The elections for 21 Lok Sabha seats and 147 Assembly segments in the state will be held in four phases in between May 13 and June 1.

Altogether 1.69 crore male voters and 1.65 crore female voters will cast their votes in the ensuing polls in Odisha, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nikunj Bihari Dhal at a presser here today.

The state has altogether 3,438 third gender voters, over 5 lakh differently-abled voters and over 3 lakh senior citizen voters (Above 85 years), he added.

It is mandatory for the voters to produce either their Voter ID card or any other identity proof at the polling stations before casting the votes.

The voters can bring any of these 12 alternative identity proofs—Aadhaar card, PAN card, Disability Identity Card, Photo ID cards issued by the Centre/state government/public undertakings/private organisations to their employees, the passbooks with photos issued by the banks/post offices, health insurance smart card issued by the Labour Ministry, Driving Licence, Indian Passport, Smart card issued by the NPR, pension documents with photographs, ID cards issued to MPs, MLAs and MLCs and MGNREGA card—to the polling stations, said the CEO.

Four Lok Sabha seats and 28 Assembly constituencies in Odisha will go for polls in the fourth phase on May 13.

The polling for five Lok Sabha segments and 35 Assembly seats in the state will be held in the fifth phase on May 20.

Similarly, polling for six Lok Sabha seats and 42 Assembly seats in Odisha to be held in the sixth phase on May 25.

Besides, six Lok Sabha seats and 42 Assembly seats in the state to go for polls in the seventh or final phase on June 1.

The counting of votes will be done on June 4, said the CEO.
