Class-VI Odisha girl develops device for surveillance in COVID containment zone

Bhubaneswar: Pratibha Pallai, an 11-year-old girl of Khandagiri area in Odisha capital, has developed a device that helps in carrying out surveillance in COVID containment zones. The innovation can prove handy at a time when the state is battling against the second wave of the pandemic.

The application-based device namely ‘Coronavirus Human Detector System’ runs on arduino codes. The user needs to install the application in a computer and then connect the computer to the device.

The required radius of the zone desired to be put under surveillance can be set by the user. The system will alert the user with a buzzer on the occasion of someone’s trespass into the zone.

Pratibha, a class-VI student of Vikash Residential School here, said she has produced a prototype of the device while it can be produced commercially.

An enthusiast in robotics, Pratibha has so far bagged 15 Olympiad awards.
