COVID-19 vaccine side effects so far in Odisha

Bhubaneswar:  So far, 19 persons administered with COVID-19 vaccine in Odisha have showed side effects, informed Health and Family Welfare Department Director and state Vaccine In-charge Bijay Panigrahi today.

Speaking to mediapersons, the official said cases of minor side effects have been reported in Odisha. While some have complained of inflation at the place where they took the jab, others suffered from fever in 24 hours of taking the jab.

Regarding the death of a 27-year-old youth of Nuapada allegedly due to COVID-19 vaccination, Panigrahi said the youth had vomited blood after taking the jab on January 23. Yesterday, he was sent to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, where he suffered from  brain hemorrhage and later died. Though his family members alleged that he died due to the vaccine, post-mortem report suggested the cause of the death is not related to the vaccination, he added.

The Vaccine In-charge further informed that so far 1,77,090 people have been vaccinated in the state. Today, the drive is being underway at 11 session sites in the state capital to vaccinate 2360 people.

The process to vaccinate the remaining beneficiaries out of the total 3.50 lakh healthcare workers will begin tomorrow. The list of beneficiaries for second phase of vaccination is likely to be out by January 1, he added.
