Fake ghee manufacturing unit busted in Odisha’s Ganjam; owner arrested

Berhampur: An illegal unit manufacturing adulterated ghee and selling it in the open market by faking well-known brands was busted today following a raid at Bada Bazaar locality of Berhampur city in Ganjam. Police have arrested the unit owner identified as E Rajeswar Patra in this connection.

According to a source, the arrested had been manufacturing ghee by mixing palm oil, essence, and some chemicals. The spurious ghee was labeled as ‘Maa Durga Ghee’ and was being sold in the market.

A huge cache of adulterated ghee along with several other articles has been seized, an official said.

“Trade License number, dates of manufacturing, and expiry were not mentioned on the ghee packets. The wrongdoer was distributing the fake products in the markets in and outside Odisha. He has been doing this illegal activity for nearly the last two years. The man was also previously arrested for illegally manufacturing fake Gutka (a chewable form of tobacco),” Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said.
