‘Killer’ tusker tranquilised in Odisha’s Jajpur

Jajpur: Forest officials this evening captured the tusker which had been creating panic in Danagadi area of Jajpur district for past nine days.

With the help of three drone cameras, the officials tracked the pachyderm in Kantipur forest and tranquilised it. Forest officials of Cuttack, Jajpur, Keonjhar and Angul districts, two DSPs, two platoons of police force and tranquilisers launched the ‘Operation Gajanan’ since today morning to capture the tusker which had killed four persons including a minor boy and injured 10 others in past nine days.

The Forest officials were facing challenges in tranquilising the elephant in the dense forest. However, after the elephant damaged houses of villagers in Mundasahi village under Dangadi block this morning, the Forest officials zeroed in on Kantipur forest and tracked the elephant with the help of drone cameras.

Locals have heaved a sigh of relief after the elephant was captured.
