Monsoon to hit Odisha by this weekend

Bhubaneswar: People of Odisha may get relief from humidity and heat soon as the southwest monsoon is likely to hit the coast by this weekend.

As per the weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the conditional are becoming favourable for future advance of southwest monsoon into some parts of northeast and eastern states including Odisha in the next 2-3 days.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of Jharkhand and North Odisha. A low pressure is likely to develop over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during the next 2-3 days,” the Bhubaneswar MeT stated in a bulletin.

Meanwhile, the regional meteorological centre issued thunderstorm and lightning warning for several districts for the next four days from today till June 23 morning.

The thunderstorm with gusty surface wind, moderate rain and lightning as well as heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Boudh, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Nuapada during these period.
