Odia man wins Assembly poll in Chhattisgarh

Bhubaneswar: An Odia man has been elected from Raipur City (North) Assembly constituency in neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

Purandar Mishra, who was fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won the Assembly segment by defeating Kuldeep Singh Juneja Congress party by a margin of 23,054 votes.

Mishra is a lawyer by profession and he is originally from Padmapur area of Odisha’s Bargarh district, sources said.

Mishra, who was instrumental in constructing a Jagannath temple at Raipur, entered the electoral politics for the first time, sources added.

Mishra has been associated with BJP since long.

Notably, as many as 4 lakh Odia people are residing in Raipur city of Chhattisgarh.

It is worth mentioning here that the BJP is all set to form government in the neighbouring state as the party has managed to either win or take lead over Congress candidates in 54 Assembly constituencies.
