Odisha: Incessant rain washes away approach road to bridge, disconnects more than 10 villages in Kandhamal

Phulbani: Following incessant rains that battered the district for last few days, an approach road to a bridge located in hilly terrain was completely washed away today by surging rainwater near Gadipadar village on Gochhapada-Salaguda road under Phiringia block in Kandhamal.

According to a source, due to a fresh spell of low pressure-induced rain since yesterday, a creek located in the hilly region inflated leading to the road snap. Local residents in over 10 villages have now got disconnected and are unable to go elsewhere, including the district headquarters.

“Even to the extent, emergency services cannot be provided to us as vehicular movement has been disrupted in this route. We are in panicky,” some local residents expressed.

The Administration should do the needful and repair the damaged approach road, the locals said.

It is pertinent to mention here that due to the prevalent monsoon trough and a fresh low-pressure area formed, heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places in four districts of Odisha during next 24 hours. India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre issued Orange Warning in some districts for next five days.

Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha, a Low Pressure Area has formed over north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal Coasts.
