Odisha MP urges Finance Minister to exempt DMFs from taxes

Bhubaneswar: BJD Rajya Sabha MP Amar Patnaik has requested Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to amend the Income Tax Act and the GST Act so that the District Mineral Foundations (DMFs) can be exempted from tax.

In a letter written on October 14, Patnaik requested the Finance Minister to amend the Income Tax Act 1961 exempting the DMFs from tax and the filing regulations.

The Parliamentarian also requested the Union Finance Minister to introduce an amendment to the GST Act so that services offered by DMF are exempted from tax.

Under GST law, the activity of government and local bodies and trusts registered under section 12 A of the Income Tax Act, 1961 are exempted from GST. While public services/activities such as roads and public transport are exempted from tax, many other public services are taxed. Patnaik requested the Union Finance Minister to clear the confusion and amend the GST Act.
