Odisha: Under-trial prisoner dies at Nilagiri Sub-jail

Balasore: An Under-trial prisoner (UTP) of Nilagiri Sub-jail in Balasore district died following fits attack this morning.

Sources said Pagulu Khandei (25), son of Hadibandhu of Nuasahi village under Nilagiri police limits, was arrested by Excise officials on July 8 on charges illegal liquor trade. He was sent to Nilagiri Sub-jail after rejection of his bail plea.

Today morning, he suffered from fits, following which he was rushed a hospital. However, doctors declared him dead.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that the UTP died due to treatment negligence inside the jail. Police said the cause behind the death will be ascertained once post-mortem report comes in.
