Odisha Vigilance arrests SDA planning member for amassing 88% disproportionate assets

Sambalpur: Vigilance today arrested former Sambalpur Development Authority (SDA) planning member Bandita Mohapatra for accumulating assets disproportionate to her legal sources of income, following a raid. She was found to have amassed around 88 per cent ill-gotten properties than her income.

Assets include a triple-storey building with an area of 5,400 sqft worth approximately Rs 1.34 crore, a flat, seven plots, deposits of over Rs 1.73 crore, cash of Rs 3.93 lakh, gold jewellery weighing around 172 grams, 1 four-wheeler etc unearthed during the raid.

Mohapatra will be forwarded to the Special Vigilance Judge court in Sambalpur for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets (DA), which she could not account for satisfactorily.

In this connection, Sambalpur Vigilance PS case (No-33, dated 20.12.2023 was registered against the former planning member and her spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Amendment Act, 2018.

“During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets worth crores were unearthed in the name of Mohapatra and her family members: a triple-storey building with an area of 5,400 sqft over Plot No-1559/6001 at Unit-19 in Soubhagya Nagar of Bhubaneswar costing around Rs 1.34 crore, a Flat No-P/6, Netaji Subash Enclave in Gadakana, Bhubaneswar, 7 plots including 3 in Bhubaneswar and 4 in and around Baripada town, deposits in Mutual Funds of around Rs 1,03,28,000, bank and insurance deposits of Rs 70,66,787, cash Rs 3,93,079, gold jewellery weighing 171.51 grams recovered from 3 lockers, a four-wheeler, and a two-wheeler and several household articles worth over Rs 16.59 lakh,” a senior Vigilance official stated.
