Odisha: Woman consumes phenyl as daughter-in-law stages dharna in front of house

Berhampur: A woman reportedly consumed phenyl after her daughter-in-law staged dharna in front of her house in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The victim was admitted to the Berhampur MKCG Hospital in critical condition, where she breathed her last today.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sushma Panda.

The incident occurred at Khanda Sahi area under Ganjam NAC on Sunday.

According to reports, Sushma’s son had tied the knot in 2020. Ten days after his marriage, he confronted with his wife Tanmayee following which she went to her father’s house. Even she made allegations against her husband at Mahila Police station.

Even as the matter is currently sub-judice, Tanmayee suddenly came to her in-laws house with her maternal grandmother on Saturday and sat on dharna in front of the residence alleging dowry torture.

Reacting to the incident, Sushma consumed phenyl to end her life. She was taken to the MKCG Hospital where she succumbed.

The family alleged that she took the extreme step out of trauma after her daughter-in-law publicly protested in front of her house.
