Rooftop solar system, gadgets of advanced technology would help minimise electricity bills: Odisha Energy Minister

Bhubaneswar: Energy Minister Pratap Keshari Deb today appealed to the people of Odisha to make use of rooftop solar systems, electrical appliances and electronic gadgets of advanced technology for energy conservation and to minimise electricity bills as well.

“Some consumers are at times displeased and express their resentment alleging high billing amounts, which can be effectively managed at reasonable costs,” the Energy Minister said.

The Department has chalked out policies and discussions have been held with the power distribution companies (DISCOMs) with regard to encouragement for energy conservation.

Worth mentioning, the Department has plans to adopt effective means for energy efficiency and energy conservation in government buildings. Accordingly, old fans of more than five years would be replaced with brushless direct current motor (BLDC) fans.

A BLDC functions on direct-current electricity and BLDC motors contain permanent magnets rather than electromagnets used in induction motors. The permanent magnet contains less heat loss and energy compared to electromagnets. A BLDC motor converts the alternate current into DC.

Similarly, old air-conditioners of more than five years would be replaced with 5-Star-rated ACs.
