Scrub typhus claims one more life in Odisha’s Bargarh

Bargarh: With more scrub typhus cases being reported across Odisha, the deadly virus claimed one more life in Bargarh, taking the toll to 7 in the district.

The 48-year-old patient from Sohela locality in Bargarh district died of scrub typhus while undergoing treatment at a private hospital, informed Bargarh District Public Health Officer (DPHO) Sadhu Charan Dash.

Meanwhile, a central team is in Odisha for assessment in view of the rise in scrub typhus cases in the state especially in the western region.

Yesterday, a six-member team visited the scrub typhus-hit Sundargarh district to take stock of the situation. Today, the expert team examined the alarming situation in Bargarh district.

The central team is scheduled to visit various districts of western Odisha for analysis in detail.

Sources said that the team of experts discussed the issue with district health department in Bargarh. The members are scheduled to make visit to different areas of the district and inspect the laboratory of the District Headquarters Hospital.

Out of 1775 samples in Bargarh, 89 were found positive for scrub typhus in the district so far.
