Two minor girls meet watery grave in separate incidents in Odisha districts

Boipariguda/Champua: Two minor girls drowned today in separate incidents in Malkangiri and Keonjhar districts of Odisha.

In the first incident, a six-year-old girl who had come to her relative’s house along with family to witness Dussehra Puja celebrations drowned while taking a bath in Saptadhara river.

The deceased was identified as Swati Sisha, the daughter of Budu from Dural village near Onkadili in Malkangiri. The family earlier came to the house of Ram Sisha from Bankuli village of Boipariguda.

The minor had gone alone to the river near her relative’s house and drowned.

On being informed, Boipariguda police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the death.

In the second incident, an-year-old girl drowned in an under-construction canal at Gumura village under Jhumpura police limits and Champua subdivision in Keonjhar district. The toddler went near the canal while playing in front of her house and drowned in it.

Later, the girl’s family launched a frantic search but found the minor floating in the canal. She was fished out from the water and was taken to a hospital where doctors declared her ‘dead’.

Champua police have registered an unnatural death (U/d) case in this connection.
