Woman dies due to cardiac arrest after stepson poisons self in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Phulbani: A youth allegedly died by suicide as he poisoned himself in Ranjeni village of Loisingh panchayat under Gochhapada police limits in Kandhamal district. However, his stepmother suffered a sudden cardiac arrest today and succumbed, when she heard about the youth’s untimely demise.

The deceased youth was identified as Sushant Haripal, son of Krushnachandra Haripal from Mahibila village of Baragaon panchayat under Kantamal police limits of Boudh district. The deceased woman was identified as Poina Haripal from Kantamal in the district.

According to a source, Sushant had been residing in the house of his maternal uncle Bijay Digal in Ranjeni village. For reasons not known yet, the youth took an extreme step and consumed poison yesterday. He was rescued and admitted to a hospital for treatment but died in the morning.

A pall of gloom descended on Mahibila village after news of the deaths spread.
