2 bike-borne minors dead after speeding truck runs over them in Odisha’s Keonjhar

Barbil: Two minor boys were killed on the spot today as the ill-fated motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by an unidentified speeding truck near Bhadrasahi-Tanta locality under Barbil police limits in Keonjhar district.

One of the deceased was identified as 17-year-old Deepak Patra, son of late Narottam Patra. Another boy was identified as 15-year-old Sapan Choudhuri, son of Rama Choudhuri. Both the minors belonged to Damuhating under Barbil police limits.

According to a source, the road mishap occurred in the afternoon at around 1.55 pm. The minors were on their way from Guali to Bhadrasahi when they met with an accident leading to their untimely death. The motorcycle (registration number OD-09 A-2564) was hit by the truck from behind.

The truck ran over the head of a minor and over the belly of another, an eyewitness stated.

On being informed, Barbil police reached the spot and launched a detailed probe, which is underway. Police have seized the bodies and sent them to hospital for post-mortem.

“Driver of the truck fled from the spot along with the vehicle soon after the accident,” a cop said.
