6 women among 30 snatchers held from Puja pandals in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police claimed to have detained as many as 30 people, including six women, in connection with snatching incidents reported from various Dussehra pandals in Odisha capital here.

The accused persons have been detained at Khandagiri, Mancheswar, Laxmisagar, Nayapalli and Sahid Nagar police stations in the city here, sources said.

According to police, these people were involved in the snatching of gold ornaments, mobile phones and wallets from people who thronged Puja pandals on the occasion for Mahastami yesterday.

“We are now interrogating the accused persons. Several stolen items have been seized from them,” said an official of the Commissionerate Police today.

The police have detained at least eight snatchers from Bomikhal Puja pandal. Notably, the miscreants had snatched gold chains from at least four women at Bomikhal yesterday.

“We have detained at least six women in connection with snatching incidents at various Puja pandals in the capital city. These women have come to Odisha from other states,” added the official.
