Man accused of raping minor commits suicide in Odisha

Jagatsinghpur: A youth, accused of raping a minor girl in Kujang area in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district, allegedly committed suicide today, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Gopi Samal. He was found hanging in a room of his house.

According to police, Samal had allegedly taken a minor girl to a secluded place and raped her on Friday. A complaint was lodged after the victim narrated the ordeal before her parents.

It is suspected that Samal might have taken the extreme step fearing arrest.

Following the rape incident, the irate locals demanded arrest of the accused and stringent action against the accused.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, police added.
