Attack on Sikh man in Bhubaneswar: Police submit chargesheet

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police today submitted chargesheet against three persons in connection with the attack on a Sikh man in Odisha capital.

Report of Medical Officer, CCTV footage and witness statements are being relied upon in the case while prayer has been made by the law enforcement agency before the court of SDJM here for early cognizance and trial, police sources said.

The accused trio, identified as Sankar Rout, Deepak Mohanty and Deepak Jena, were arrested. However, they later managed to secure bail.

Victim Parbinder Pal Singh has claimed that police did not book the attackers under stringent sections of the IPC, including Section 307, for which they were granted bail. He further accused the Commissionerate Police of having complicity with the accused leading to inadequate action.

Notably, Singh was allegedly assaulted by a group of persons in Laxmi Sagar area of the city on January 14 despite presence of police at the spot. He had asked occupants of a car to move the vehicle as it was parked on road near an apartment causing inconvenience in vehicular movement.

However, they scolded Singh following which he sought the help of police by dialing 100. As cops reached the spot in a PCR van, Singh went near the policemen to apprise them about the matter. In the meantime, the accused thrashed Singh and hit his head with stone injuring him grievously. Surprisingly, the assault took place despite the presence of the cops.

A case has been registered in this regard at the Laxmi Sagar police station.
