Bhubaneswar denizens to get geotagged smart address

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started allotting geotagged smart address to denizens of the city. The newly launched Digital Door Numbering system will make the city more accessible.

The GIS-based technology shall allot unique alphanumeric numbers for all buildings of the city that will allow the BMC to determine the exact location of residential and commercial buildings.

This will also facilitate door-to-door garbage collection as well as helpful for postal departments and utility departments. The initiative has been launched on a pilot basis in ward no. 6, 23 and 30 of the capital city.

Survey teams are visiting houses in non-slum areas of Bhubaneswar for identifying the properties through geotagging and entering the address of houses in the system for its uploading and creation of smart address.

Digital Door Numbering is a smart address system where geospatial technology is used to create address of a particular household/property. Detail address like ward, street, exact location, nearby landmark, coding of the house will be done in the survey.

While the pilot survey will be carried out between February 1 and 12, the rest areas will be covered from February 13 to March 31. Street signage will be installed during April.

A budget amount of Rs 3.76 crore has been earmarked for the activity.
