Brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore seized in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: A team of STF, Bhubaneswar, seized a huge amount of brown sugar valued at over Rs 1 crore in Keonjhar district.

One drug peddler namely Rajendra Kumar Majhi alias Raju (46), a resident of Baidyarajsahi in Keonjhar district, was arrested for illegal dealing/possession of narcotic drugs.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of STF raided Jodiaghati area under Keonjhar Town police limits yesterday evening and apprehended the accused.

During the search, the STF officials recovered contraband brown sugar (Heroin) weighing 1 kg 80 gram (1080 gm) and other incriminating materials from his possession.

As the accused person failed to produce any valid authority in support of possession of such contraband, he was arrested. He will be forwarded to the Court of District & Sessions Jude-cum-Special Judge, Keonjhar.

In this connection, the STF registered a case under section 21(c) of NDPS Act 1985.

Since 2020, the STF has seized more than 74 kg brown sugar/heroin, 202 gm cocaine, more than 116 quintal ganja, 3 kg 630 gm opium and arrested more than 184 drug peddlers/dealers so far. The agency has destroyed over 60 kg seized brown sugar in last one year.
