Depression forms over Odisha; Heavy rainfall likely in these districts today

Bhubaneswar: A depression has formed over south coastal Odisha and neighbourhood, the India Meteorological Department said today.

The system is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Odisha and south Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours and weaken gradually.

“The Well Marked Low Pressure Area over Westcentral & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts moved west northwestwards and concentrated into a Depression and lay centered at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 11th Sept 2022, over south coastal Odisha and neighbourhood near latitude 19.5°N and longitude 84.7°E, about 20 km northwest of Gopalpur,” the IMD said in its bulletin.

The Regional Meteorological Centre here has issued heavy rainfall warning for several districts of Odisha for today.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Sonepur, Bargarh and Boudh, it predicted and issued Orange Warning for these districts.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Deogarh, Puri, Khurda and Cuttack, it added and issued Yellow Warning for these districts.
