Girl’s death sparks tension in Odisha’s Kakatpur, medical negligence alleged

Puri: Tension gripped Kakatpur area in Odisha’s Puri district today following the death of a girl student at Kakatpur hospital as locals blocked road alleging that medical negligence led to her death.

According to reports, Mitali Nayak, a class-IX student, was admitted to the hospital due to fever. However, she took her last breath after a doctor administered her an injection.

Her family members alleged that wrong injection was administered to her, for which she died. Being furious over the alleged negligence on the part of the doctor, locals blocked Kakatpur-Nimapada road by burning tyres.

Vehicular movement on the route was severely affected as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road. The locals have demanded transfer of the concerned doctor and compensation for the family of the deceased.
