Half of Odisha reels under intense heat; Sonepur hottest in the country

Bhubaneswar: For the second consecutive day today, another town in Odisha recorded the highest day temperature in the country.

According to the data provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sonepur town in the State recorded maximum day temperature at 44.2 degrees Celsius.

Yesterday, day temperature in Jharsuguda touched 44 degrees Celsius, the highest in the country. On April 19, 2010, Jharsuguda recorded the all-time highest day temperature at 46.1 degrees Celsius.

The other places in the State where mercury hovered 40 degrees Celsisus or above are as follows: Balangir – 42.8 degrees Celsius, Baripada – 42.5 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda – 42.2 degrees Celsius, Boudh – 42 degrees Celsius, Talcher – 41.8 degrees Celsius, Angul – 41.7 degrees Celsius, Sundargarh and Titlagarh – 41.5 degrees Celsius, Paralakhemundi – 41 degrees Celsius, Sambalpur – 40.8 degrees Celsius, Bhawanipatna and Nayagarh – 40.5 degrees Celsius, and Malkangiri, Balasore and Chhatrapur – 40 degrees Celsius.
