Jeweller looted of gold ornaments, Rs 1 Lakh cash at gunpoint in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A jeweller from Angul district was looted of gold ornaments including his chain and cash of Rs 1 lakh at gunpoint near Kadalipali locality under Rasola police limits in Dhenkanal district, today.

The victim trader has been identified as Prakash Chandra Sahu.

According to a police source, Prakash was intercepted by two bike-borne miscreants at Kadalipali when he was returning from Cuttack to Angul via Dhenkanal, after purchasing some gold ornaments. He was threatened with a firearm and attempted to be robbed. The miscreants shot at him as the jeweller protested and he sustained bullet injuries on his waist in the incident.

The looters fled from the spot soon after snatching away the valuables and cash from Prakash.

On being informed by some locals, Rasola police reached the spot and rescued Prakash. The police team admitted the jeweller to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Dhenkanal for treatment in critical condition. His condition is critical now, a doctor treating him said.

Police have launched a probe into the loot bid, which is underway.
