Smuggled liquor stashed in crates seized from vegetable market in Odisha

Jajpur: Excise officials seized around 45 litres of liquor stashed in vegetables crates from a pickup van at Jajpur vegetable market this morning.

The officials also detained the driver of the pickup van and are interrogating him in this connection.

Sources said vegetables from Kolkata are imported to the district regularly. A pickup van bearing number OD05 AS5748 arrived at Jajpur market this morning carrying vegetables from the neighbouring state. However, besides veggies, around 45 litres of liquor kept hidden in five vegetable crates were found from the vehicle.

On receiving information, Excise officials reached the spot and seized the vehicle besides detaining the driver, said district Excise Deputy Superintendent Prasanna Kumar Nayak.
